Minimum Grade Requirement: 

Grade 6 in Maths, and Grade 6 in English Language

 

Assessment:

70% examinations (2 papers); 30% coursework

Course Overview

Paper 1: Film History 35%
The following films are to be studied:
• Silent Era: The Gold Rush (1925)
• 1930-1960: Vertigo (1958)
• 1961-1990: E.T. (1982)
• Experimental film – European surrealist film: Un Chien Andalou (1929) & L’Age D’or (1930).
• German Expressionism: Nosferatu (1922)

Paper 2: Critical Approaches to Film 35%
The following films are to be studied:
• Contemporary British: Skyfall (2012)
• Contemporary US: The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
• Documentary: Man on Wire (2008)
• Non-European non-English language on Conflict: Battle of Algiers (1965)
• English language (non-US) on Conflict: District 9 (2009)
• US Independent on Conflict: Whiplash (2015)
