Shakespeare Day

In what has become something of a tradition here at OSH, the final Tuesday of term saw our Year 7s, once again, throw themselves into a whole range of activities based on their study of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

For weeks now, English lessons have echoed to the sound of Egeus being ‘full of vexation’, Oberon arguing with Titania, and the ‘lovers’ falling in and out of love according to who’s under the spell of the love potion or not.

All groups have worked really hard trying to master and, in many cases learn off by heart, the complexities of Shakespeare’s language.  We had some wonderful renditions of mischievous Puck, revelling in ‘what fools these mortals be’ as well as some imposing interpretations of Oberon as he took his revenge on poor Titania.  Bottom, always a favourite, was particularly well done by a number of students as they bossed about poor Peter Quince and then pranced about the stage, complete with donkey head.  All students should be commended for their hard work and dramatic performances.

In the other sessions, students created some lovely responses to our ‘Woodland Walk in the Rain’ stimulus material, showing some wonderful examples of imagery and figurative language and the Illustration workshop produced some equally impressive work.

Thanks to all the students for their hard work and for throwing themselves so readily into all of the activities.  Thanks and well done also to the English Department for organising and running these sessions, and for helping their classes in the preparation for this and finally thanks to all parents for their support.
