From Olympiads to Girls' Competitions: Maths Department Scores Big Across the Board

The Mathematics department is buzzing with pride as we celebrate a phenomenal start to the academic year, with students achieving outstanding results in a series of national competitions. From inaugural girls' competitions to the highly demanding Maths Olympiad, our students have demonstrated dedication, skill, and mathematical prowess.

Inaugural Maths Competition for Girls

On Thursday, September 15th, our school was represented in the inaugural Maths Competition for Girls, run by the UK Mathematics Trust. This demanding event challenged the participants with a number of questions over a rigorous 90-minute time frame.

We commend all the girls for volunteering their time in taking part!

  • Certificate of Participation: Well done to Liliana Southwick!
  • Certificates of Merit: Congratulations to Caitlin Morris, Sama Rabie, Veronica Chapman, and Chloe Patel for all gaining this impressive award.
  • Certificates of Distinction: A huge shout-out to Laila Ahmad Grampsa and Claudea Cheung, who both achieved this top-tier award, with Claudea also being recognised as Best in School!

Triumph in the Maths Olympiad for Girls (MOG)

Special congratulations are due to Aimee Gittins for her outstanding achievement in the Maths Olympiad for Girls (MOG). This gruelling, two-and-a-half-hour national challenge is organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust and is a limited-entry competition.

Only the most dedicated mathematicians enter the MOG, and Aimee is to be highly commended for not only entering but also gaining a coveted Certificate of Merit! This is a truly remarkable achievement on a national stage.

Success in the Senior Maths Challenge

Forty-seven of our students sat the Senior Maths Challenge a couple of weeks ago, and their collective results are superb! Well done to every student who took part.

As a group, the students achieved an outstanding 15 Bronze and 16 Silver awards!

A particularly huge cheer goes to the students who earned a Gold award and qualified for the prestigious follow-on round, the Senior Kangaroo:

  • Claudea Cheung
  • Jake Cartwright
  • Joshua Day
  • Ben Thomas
  • Jacky Zhichao Zhang
  • Hayden Franks (Best in School)

These results are a testament to the hard work and passion of our students, and we look forward to celebrating their continued success in mathematics!
