Following on from a very successful Athletics Heats afternoon in May, Sports Day 2025 was set to be one of the closets contests in recent years.

The sheer breadth of athletic talent on display was staggering and it was in many ways no surprise to see us set a new record for – the number of records broken!

No fewer than 21 new records were set on 3 July 2025.  All but two by our girls!

In Year 7 we saw Lily (Foster) break the High Jump record, Darcey G (Foley) broke the Long Jump record, Poppy B (Foley) set a new record for Triple Jump and Zara K (Foley) broke the Year 7 Cricket ball throw record, while Ellie N (Foster) threw a record Discus.  On the track Ana H (Foster) was our fastest ever Year 7 girl in the 100m, and Sophie G (Foley) the equivalent in the 300m.  Darcey T (Foster) was a record-breaking winner of the girls 1500m while Naomi (Foley) triumphed with new records in both the High Jump and 200m.

In Year 8, Aria (Foster) set a girls High Jump record, Lauren (Foley) a girls Long Jump record, Madelief (Potter) a girls Triple Jump record and Lillia a new record for the girls Cricket Ball. Maise (Foley) is our new record holder for Shot Put.  On the track Zac M (Foster) and Haillie (Foley) set records for the 300m and 1500m respectively.

In Year 9 Latika (Foster) and Grace E (Foley) set records in the girls Long Jump and Discus respectively, while Harry B (Potter) became only the second boy of the afternoon to set a record with his performance in the 300m.

From our senior athletes only Nathalia (Foster) was successful in setting a record, this time in the Senior Girls Discus.

Senior boys tackle a fast relay change-over  Long distance junior girls reach their penultimate lap  Intermediate boys get ready to take the start  Senior girl winner flies across the finish line

A tight finish for an intermediate boys' race  Powerful run-past by senior boys  Intermediate girls fly over the finish line  Students gather for the 4x100m relay

This was the biggest Sports Day the school has ever held in its history and it was great to see such a supportive crowd which only added to the atmosphere for our pupils competing.  The silverware on the day was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox.  Foster House won the Relay Cup and Harry P of Potter House won the 1500m trophy for his performance earlier in the day.

Our Victor and Victrix Ludorum Trophies for ‘winner of the games’ were awarded as follows:

  • Junior Victor Ludorum: Jude C (Foley)
  • Junior Victrix Ludorum: Naomi (Foley)
  • Intermediate Victor Ludorum: Freddie H (Foley)
  • Intermediate Victrix Ludorum: Indigo (Potter)
  • Senior Victor Ludorum: Miles (Foster)
  • Senior Victrix Ludorum: Nathalia (Foster)

Overall, Foley House sealed victory in the Champions Trophy by the narrowest of margins which can likely be attributed in part to their winning of the DPJ School Relay in May.

With such athletic talent across our community we are already highly excited for what next year might hold.
