On Wednesday 11 December, the second annual Spearhead public speaking competition took place, with 18 participants all vying for the coveted Spearhead trophy.

Each year group was given a different topic to speak about: Year 7 had to explore the dangers and limitations of AI; Year 8 spoke about war and if world peace is ever truly achievable; whilst Year 9 were tasked with presenting a speech on immortality.

The evening was very well attended with more than 60 relatives and friends there to support our courageous speakers.  The speeches themselves were superb, and the judges Ms. Xu, Ms. Hunt and Mr. Kilbride, were blown away by the calibre of the ideas and the conviction of the delivery from all of our speakers.

In Year 7 the winners were Lucinda and Lily, with Jack as runner up.  In Year 8, Ben S won with Moyin as runner up.  In Year 9, Matthew was the winner and Molly runner up.

The competition's overall winner was Ben S, who scored a staggering 140 out of an available 150 points on the combined judges' score.  Ben wowed the judges with a rousing speech on the futility of war, and an impassioned call for diplomacy and dialogue.

Overall, the night was a wonderful success and we look forward to doing it all again next year!
