It’s been a pleasure to welcome Food Preparation and Nutrition to the OSH curriculum this year.
With the introduction of a new subject for Key Stage 3 and new GCSE Option, we also welcome Miss Wickens as our expert teacher.
The excitement students have shown to be able to make and eat their own home cooked food has been fantastic.
All students have focused on food hygiene and safety to start their learning and have since experienced a variety or recipes. Year 7 have looked at healthy eating and how to use each part of a cooker. Year 9 have been focusing this half term on international cuisine.
For our first GCSE cohort, Year 10’s have been continuing to expand their knowledge in preparation for their GCSE. Part of that knowledge is how to stylishly present their food. They were set a challenge to make 2 digestive biscuits look as attractive as possible and I was delighted by the results.
Year 10 were also lucky enough to visit Cadbury World where they got to have insight into how production of a large-scale works, how chocolate is tempered as seen in the image below and that being a ‘chocolate taster’ is a real job they could aim for!
