Following a 24-5 win over Woodbridge School, OSH will meet St Olave’s Grammar in the Nat West Schools Cup U18 Bowl Final on Tuesday 28th March at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium.
Coach Mr Dawes reports on the Semi-Final match against Woodbridge School:
OSH started the game having lost the toss, however, early territory and possession led to a try for Toby Costello, which James Westwood converted. OSH continued to dominate the battle for yards and despite some excellent tackling from Woodbridge, Sean Riley scored again, converted once more by Westwood. Woodbridge continued to threaten on the break, but strong defence and some outstanding cover tackling from Dylan De Sousa, Charlie Simmons and Sam Hughes prevented scores. OSH managed a penalty from Westwood just before the break following another line break from the dangerous Benny Trimmer.
The second half was end to end with Woodbridge running from everywhere on the pitch, but OSH weathered the storm and scored a fine set piece try through captain Jon Baylie. Woodbridge scored a try following a classy break from their back row, but the OSH defence held firm to see out the time.
Commenting on the match, OSH Director of Sport, Mr Coalter said: “We are a much younger team than the one that got to Twickenham in 2012. In this squad we have a number of U16 players who will be far better for playing in this competition.
“The second half saw Woodbridge come into the game, and at times it was end to end stuff. It must have been an exciting game to watch for the neutrals. We defended very well, but it was nervy at times.”
