Congratulations to former student Hannah Payton who has been named as one of the 12 riders who will be competing for Great Britain at the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships on 28 & 29 January 2017.
22 year old Hannah comes from a family of keen cyclists who rarely took a break from cycling and even spent most of their family holidays travelling around Europe by bike. Both her father and brother compete in cyclo-cross and Hannah is still a member of Stourbridge CC, regularly training there.
After completing her A Levels at OSH, Hannah had planned to have a gap year to ride full-time. However, as Hannah explained “One year turned into four, but this year I decided the time was right to go to University. I am currently at The University of Birmingham where I was awarded a sports scholarship, which has enabled me to continue to compete whilst studying physiotherapy.”
“Between A Levels and university I spent two years racing full-time in Belgium and also competed in another 15 countries. I wasn’t sure how training and studying would work alongside each other, but it seems to be working well at the moment”
During this current season, Hannah has won the National Trophy Series and won silver in the National Championships. She is sponsored by Team Kinesis UK for cyclo-cross and competes on the road with the Drops Cycling Team.
Everyone at OSH wishes Hannah great success in the World Championships.
