August 22nd, 2016

George Nicholls, a student at Old Swinford Hospital, recently auditioned for the prestigious Birmingham Junior Conservatoire and was awarded a place to study the acclaimed organist Thomas Corns.

His place will include organ lessons, Grade 6 theory and chamber choir training.

15 year old George who is from Tamworth has been playing for four years having originally been inspired by former student William Peart, who is now studying the organ at Gloucester Cathedral.

At the start of the summer, George gave his first solo recital at Great Witley Church, raising £190 for the organ restoration.

Director of Music Anna Downes commented ‘We are delighted that George Nicholls continues to make excellent strides in his early career as an organist.’

George is currently studying for his GCSEs and hopes to read music at Oxford, after finishing his A-Levels at OSH.
