Gifted Organist Receives Help with Tuition

April 14th, 2016

Congratulations to George Nicholls who has been awarded the ‘Leonard Gibbons Fund’ through the Birmingham Organists’ Association to help pay for organ tuition.

15 year old George has been playing the organ for four years having originally been inspired by former student William Peart, who is now studying the organ at Gloucester Cathedral.  George regularly receives organ tuition from freelance organist Paul Carr, who is particularly renowned for his eclectic programming, drawing on his extensive repertoire of organ literature and organ transcriptions.

During the Easter holidays, George attended an organ scholar experience, through the Royal College of Organists at Hertford College, Oxford where he was given the wonderful opportunity to play at Evensong.

At OSH, George regularly accompanies the choir and plays at school services.  He is also the assistant organist at his home parish church.

Look out for further details of an Organ Recital at Great Witley Church on Saturday 30th July, where George will be providing a varied programme of music.

George is currently studying for his GCSEs and hopes to gain an organ scholarship and read music at Oxford, after finishing his A-Levels at OSH.
