Congratulations to OSH Air Cadet James Kelly, who at just 17 years of age has been awarded his Private Pilots’ Licence.
James is currently studying Chemistry, Maths and Physics A Levels at OSH and has been flying for just over three years. He has mainly flown in a Grob 115, the same aircraft that RAF Cadets regularly fly at RAF Cosford.
To qualify for his PPL, James was put through a gruelling testing process including eight written theory exams and one practical radio exam. He also had to fly solo for 200 miles cross country landing at two separate airfields. His final test was to successfully demonstrate his flying skills to an examiner during a flight test and he completed various manoeuvres including taking off, landing, emergency procedures, diversions and navigation.
James hopes to use his new licence to fly family and friends around the country. However, he is still committed to his long term goal of joining the RAF and we wish him the very best of luck.
