George Westwood is through to the District Finals of the Rotary Young Chef Competition after being placed as runner up in a local heat this week. Aged 14, George competed against six other budding chefs, including OSH student Gus Rendle. His menu of Chaing Mai Thai Rice Mince followed by blackberry and apple crumble with homemade custard, wowed the judges and won George a cheque for £25.00.
Commenting on his success, George said “I have learnt many useful skills through Food Technology and the competition itself was great fun. I am looking forward to the District final and will need to add a starter to my menu and keep practicing my dishes.” The Rotary Young Chef Competition, open to students aged 11-17, aims to encourage young people to learn how to cook a healthy meal; develop food presentation skills; consider food hygiene issues; develop organisational and planning skills; and develop an ability to cope in a demanding situation, all of which are valuable life skills.
Good luck with the next round George!
