Morriston Male Voice Choir Triumphant Return to Stourbridge

May 9th, 2013

Headmaster Peter Jones, staff, students and guests were delighted to welcome back the Morriston Male Voice Choir who were joined by the School’s own Swing Band for a concert on Saturday 20th April 2013 in the Foleyan Centre.

Musical Director D Huw Rees chose to debut a few new pieces and judging by the capacity audience’s appreciation the Choir achieved concert pitch!  Hywel Evans accompanied on piano and bass Huw Roberts sang the solo parts in three choral pieces.  Choir Chairman Robert Harwood introduced the performances, which included a wide range from the Choir’s newly refreshed repertoire, including Welsh hymns, sacred music, West End show songs, and more.

Under the leadership of Director of Music Tony Bridgewater, Old Swinford Hospital’s Swing Band almost had the audience dancing in the aisles with their choice of toe-tapping numbers, played with confidence and skill.

A staggering £1,106 was raised from the concert for ‘Help for Hugo’ – the trust fund set up to support the son of former Old Swinford Hospital student Capt Rupert Bowers who was tragically killed in action in Afghanistan in 2012.
